Optional Life Insurance

(VRS/Minnesota Life) Any employees may purchase up to four times your salary worth of life insurance on yourself; half of what you purchase for yourself on your spouse; and up to $15,000 on children. Cost charts outlined are available from Human Resources.

The Virginia Retirement System administers a defined benefit plan, a group life insurance plan, a deferred compensation plan and a cash match plan for Virginia's public sector employees, as well as the Virginia Sickness and Disability Program for state employees. They are headquartered in Richmond Virginia.

Worker's Compensation

Longwood University Employees are eligible to receive compensation under the Virginia Worker's Compensation Act for injuries and/or illnesses incurred in the course of official work-related duties. Compensation may include payment of medical expenses and for time lost from work. Compensability is determined by Managed Care Innovations, the Commonwealth's insurance carrier for worker's compensation.

A Longwood Incident Report should be completed, signed by the employee and the employee's supervisor, and submitted to Human Resources within 24 hours when a work-related injury or illness occurs.

Do you want to s-t-r-e-t-c-h your dollars? Are you tired of traffic delays and tie-ups on your commute to work? Would you like to ease your commute and make it less stressful? Well, Longwood University would like to help you.

To help save money on commuting costs and provide a stress-free way for employees from the Richmond/Chesterfield areas to commute to work, Longwood University employees can now take advantage of the Rideshare vanpool as part of the Longwood University tax-free transportation benefit program. With this benefit, all employees who commute from home to work by the vanpool will have their payments withheld from their salary on a pretax basis.

Flexible Spending Account Sourcebook

Open Enrollment is May 1st - May 15th!

 The Commonwealth of Virginia offers three statewide plans for employees to choose.  Each plan provides medical, dental, prescription drug, behavioral services and wellness and preventive services.  

  • COVA Care--administered by Anthem and is a Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plan. 
  • COVA HealthAware--administered by Aetna. This plan is a Consumer Driven Health Plan with a Health Reimbursement Arrangement.
  • COVA Care HDHP--administered by Anthem.  This plan is High Deductible Health Plan, and is Health Savings Account eligible.  

Optional coverages for Expanded Dental, Vision and Hearing and Out of Network coverages can be added to these plans for additional premium payments. Please click on the link below to learn more about the coverages, deductibles and copays associated with each of these plans.

Employees can choose from three different membership levels:  Employee Only; Employee plus One and  Employee plus Two or more.
