Glassdoor is quickly becoming the go-to job search site for job seekers because it allows them to get an overview of the company, read reviews from employees, learn about the interviewing process, get a peek at the company culture, and more. Here are some tips that will help you effectively research companies on Glassdoor:
1. Read the overview.
Get a basic sense of the company mission, values, goals, services, products, and so on by reading the company overview on Glassdoor. If anything resonates with you, continue exploring what the company is about by diving deeper into their Glassdoor page.
2. Look at the reviews.
When you research companies on Glassdoor, read reviews from current and former employees. These are golden nuggets of insight. They allow you to get a sense of the culture there, based on actual experiences. Take these with a grain of salt, though, as the culture varies between branches, managers, and roles. It’s a great starting point, though!
3. Peek at the photos.
Another way to get a feel for the company culture is to view the photos the company has posted on its Glassdoor page. Typically, companies share photos of their offices, company initiatives, team parties, and other things that contribute to the company culture.
4. Check out the "Why Work For Us?" section.
If you’re itching for some inspiration, take a look at the “Why Work For Us?” section of the company you’re pursuing. Here, you’ll gain a sense of what the company is trying to accomplish, why it exists, and why you should consider joining the team.
5. Follow the companies you love.
After taking a little time to explore what companies are out there, be sure to hit the “Follow” button on the profiles of your favorites. When you follow a company, you’ll receive updates on the company that can help you develop your job search strategy moving forward.
These are just a few amazing features of Glassdoor that you can leverage during your job search. If you need help figuring out what companies you should consider working for after school, book an appointment with Longwood University Career Services and work with a career coach.
