CAFE’S JANUARY PEDAGOGY SERIES: ENGAGING LITERACIES: INTENTIONAL APPROACHES TO STUDENT LEARNING
When: January 7–9, 2026
Where: via Zoom
Registration: https://forms.gle/QRYGTpNv7PGARUcs6
On January 7 & 8, join us for a two-day exploration of literacies as tools for meaningful engagement and learning. No matter what you teach, you are teaching literacies– fundamental building blocks of learning from reading and writing to news literacy and emotional intelligence. This year’s series features workshops designed to help faculty strengthen course design, deepen student engagement, and integrate literacy development into your teaching. Faculty will have the opportunity to explore these literacies within the context of their own disciplines and leave with practical strategies to apply in the spring semester.
Upon completion of the Pedagogy Series, faculty should be able to:
- Identify the role of multiple and intersecting literacies in supporting student learning across disciplines.
- Reflect on their own teaching practices and identify actionable next steps to strengthen literacy development in upcoming courses.
- Design or revise course activities and assignments that incorporate targeted literacies.
On January 9, join us for a half-day workshop focused on planning a productive and restorative spring semester. Drawing on Kerry Roquemore’s proven planning techniques, this session guides faculty through key strategies for organizing their work, balancing professional and personal responsibilities, and setting up systems that support a successful term. Participants will have dedicated time to begin planning their Spring 2026 semester and will leave with practical approaches they can immediately put into action. Snacks and drinks provided.
Also on January 9, faculty can schedule course design consultations for one-on-one support. Whether you are refining a full course, updating a single assignment, or seeking guidance on integrating new teaching strategies or technologies, CAFE and DEC consultants are available to help. Participants will have the opportunity to work directly with a consultant on their specific goals and leave with focused, actionable next steps for the spring semester.
