Virginia Holocaust Museum: The Alexander Lebenstein Teacher Education Institute Part I

The Institute is recommended for middle and high school educators who would like to or currently teach the Holocaust in their classrooms.  Sessions focus on the Holocaust’s historical background and pedagogy which link to the Virginia Standards of Learning requirements.

Dates: June 16-18, 2025, 8:30 am – 5pm (on the last day, class ends at 1:30pm)

From Context to Classroom Part I
 is open to teachers who have never completed the Alexander Lebenstein Teacher Education Institute. With the successful completion of this 2 1/2 day in-person class and its requirements, your school division may allow you to apply up to 45 recertification points.

 

In order to complete class requirements you must fully participate, which includes pre-reading and the use of the online platform Canvas and a final project. A certificate of completion, the $200 stipend, and the reimbursement of the $30 registration fee will be sent to you after the class and when all requirements are met.

From Context to Classroom Part II is recommended for teachers who have already completed Part I. With the successful completion of this 2 1/2 day in-person class and its requirements, your school division may allow you to apply up to 45 recertification points.

A limited number of $500 scholarships are available for teachers 50+ miles from Richmond.
