Dr. Jessica L. Bourdon is an Assistant Professor of Psychology whose work lies at the intersection of addiction, psychiatric genetics, and translational science. She primarily focuses on using collaborative frameworks and genetic information to enhance the care of individuals struggling with addiction and those in recovery. Her overarching research agenda is to improve science communication and translational pathways across stakeholders (e.g., researchers, clinicians, patients) as well as to investigate the incorporation of psychiatric genetic information into mental health care. More broadly, Dr. Bourdon is interested in any research topic related to health, wellness, and college students. She has an active research lab at Longwood University. Prior to coming to Longwood University, Dr. Bourdon obtained her Ph.D. in Clinical and Translational Science with a concentration in Psychiatric, Behavioral, and Statistical Genetics from Virginia Commonwealth University. She subsequently completed a TranSTAR postdoctoral fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Bourdon then served as the Director of Research Administration at Wellbridge Addiction Treatment and Research before returning to academia with a Visiting Assistant appointment at the University of Richmond. Thus, her professional agenda also includes overseeing all aspects of research coordination, data management, integrity, and protection. Research integrity is vital to high quality research, science, and clinical practices.
