On July 13-14, 150+ K-12 educators----classroom teachers, literacy coaches, reading specialists, school librarians, and administrators--were on campus for the 19th Summer Literacy Institute: Critical Thinking and Literacy.  Sponsored by the Department of Education and Counseling; School Librarianship Program; Reading, Literacy, and Learning Program; and Educational Leadership Program, the Institute featured Jennifer LaGarde as Thursday's workshop presenter, Terry Catasus Jennings as Thursday's author banquet speaker, and Jarrett J. Krosoczka as Friday author keynote.  Across the two days of professional development, participants also had the opportunity to attend concurrent sessions on various topics around inquiry, literacy, and reading.  Many of those in attendance were double Lancers having earned both undergraduate and graduate degrees from Longwood.
