Dr. Alix Fink, Dean of the Cormier Honors College, was recently featured on NPR’s With Good Reason to speak about her specialty, Biological Science. As the Wilma Register Sharp and Marc Boyd Sharp Dean of the Cormier Honors College for Citizen Scholars at Longwood University, Dr. Fink has worked tirelessly to contribute to science education. She has collaborated with a number of Longwood partners to emphasize student-centered research programs exploring vertebrate ecology, habitat disturbance, and the demographics associated with certain birds and bats. She has also been one of the stewards of the LU@YNP program, helping to foster a close relationship with stakeholders in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem.

Dr. Fink spoke with NPR about the importance of science education and how classroom science skills translate easily into everyday problem solving. The practice of questioning, understanding, and ultimately digesting big ideas builds confidence in young people so they can attack future obstacles with systematic aim. Once again Dr. Fink is helping to positively advance the minds of the Honors College scholars who witness her unwavering commitment to improving science education, and helping everyone she meets along the way!
