As the spring semester comes to a close, all residential communities will close at noon on Saturday, May 10. Students are required to move out within 24 hours of completing their final spring exam or by noon on May 10, whichever comes first.
Approved Exceptions
The following students may remain on campus beyond the May 10 deadline:
- Graduating seniors
- Graduating master’s degree students living in the residence halls
- Students approved to assist with Commencement
- Apartment residents participating in 12-month housing
- Students involved in select faculty- or staff-sponsored programs (e.g., athletics, Brock Experiences)
Students who believe they may qualify for special approval to remain on campus after May 10 should contact their coach or appropriate faculty/staff sponsor for further guidance.
Students participating in Commencement must move out by 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 17.
Quiet Hours
To support a productive exam environment, 24-hour quiet hours will begin at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 2, and continue through noon on Saturday, May 10.
Checkout Process
All residents are required to complete the Express Checkout process:
1. Remove all belongings.
Personal items must be removed from assigned rooms and common areas prior to departure.
Items left behind will be considered abandoned and subject to disposal and related charges.
2. Use the Express Checkout envelope and drop box system:
- Envelopes are available at service desks in each community.
- Fill out the envelope, place your key(s) inside, and drop it in the designated box.
- Residence Halls: Drop boxes are near the front desks.
- Lancer Park: Use the exterior drop box near the Brown Commons front desk.
- Longwood Landings: Use the wall-mounted box in each ground-floor elevator lobby.

Before leaving, all residents must complete the following. Units will be inspected, and failure to comply may result in judicial sanctions and/or financial charges.
Departure Checklist
- Remove all trash and perishable food.
- Thoroughly clean the unit, including bathrooms and common areas.
- Double-check for personal items such as medication, electronics, glasses, and wallets.
- Turn off all lights.
- Close and lock all windows.
- Lower blinds/shades.
- Lock all doors.
Information for Moss and Johns Hall Residents
- The loading zone on the South Main Street side of Moss and Johns Halls will be closed from Friday, April 25, through Monday, May 19.
- Use Wynne Drive to Pine Street, then turn onto the sidewalk in front of the Fitness Center to access Spruce Street.
- During this period, Spruce Street and Redford Street will serve as exit-only routes to South Main Street. Do not enter campus from South Main Street via Redford Street.
Expectations and Best Practices
- Do not drive or park on the grass.
- Do not park in nearby private business lots—towing is enforced at all times, including weekends.
- Continue parking in your designated permit zone.
- Be mindful of others and proceed with patience and caution around pedestrians and vehicles.
- Bring your own dolly or handcart to assist with moving.
- Do not enter restricted or barricaded areas.
- The sidewalks in front of Wheeler and Stubbs Halls are for emergency or authorized vehicles only.
- Farmville Area Bus (FAB) service ends at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 9.
- The final meal served on the spring meal plan will be dinner on Friday, May 9.
Donation Opportunities
Students are encouraged to donate gently used items instead of discarding them. Prior to final exams, collection boxes will be available in each residence hall and apartment community for donations to:
- Better Days of Farmville
- FACES Food Pantry
- Southside SPCA
- Local clothes closets
Large dumpsters will also be placed across campus to assist with large-item disposal.
