Native American Heritage Month (November)

Join the Office of Multicultural Affairs in celebrating the history, culture, and heritage of the Native American/Indigenous Persons!

 Nov.2nd- The Office of Multicultural Affairs will be releasing an Indigenous Land Acknowledgement that recognizes and commemorates the life, heritage, and history of those who claimed this land before us.

 Nov 10th- There will be a virtual screening of the documentary, “A Good Day to Die” on Zoom at 5pm. This film tells the story of the struggles and triumphs of the American Indian Movement (AIM) and one of its cofounders, Dennis Banks. Bittersweet and compelling, A GOOD DAY TO DIE charts the rise and fall of a movement that fought for the civil rights of American Indians.

 Nov. 17thThere will be a virtual showing of the documentary, “More Than A Word” on Zoom at 5pm.

This film is, “An exploration of Native American-based mascots, especially the Washington R_dskins, and their impact on real-life attitudes, issues, and policies. Through interviews with scholars, tribal leaders, lawyers, policy experts, activists, and Washington R_dskins fans, the film explores the history of the slanderous term "redskin," and delves into cultural stereotypes of Native Americans and their relationship to history. Ultimately, the film argues for representations that honor and celebrate the humanity of Indigenous people.”
