The purpose of this procedure is to provide guidance to individuals in the reporting of threat or a perceived threat.
This procedure applies to any behavior that is interpreted to be a threat. Judgments about the seriousness of a threat should be made by the Threat Assessment Team. Judgments about the seriousness of a threat should be made by the Threat Assessment Team rather than the administrative unit, because the Threat Assessment Team may have additional information that alters the seriousness of the situation and what actions, if any are appropriate to resolve the threat.
- In all situations, notice of threatening situations shall be made by calling the Police Communications center at 395- 2091 or, in an emergency 911. The caller shall advise the dispatcher that they need to make a Threat Assessment Team contact, in order to make a notification of a possible threat.
- The Police Communications Center will immediately notify the Threat Assessment Team Leader of the complaint and the team l leader will immediately make contact with the complainant, take a statement, and establish a time and location for a meeting to take an in person report.
- Persons communicating with the Threat Assessment Team shall provide all available information concerning the subject of the threat assessment and the nature of the threatening situation.
