The SNVC Undergraduate Scholarship recognizes Kimora Johnson in her commitment to leadership at Longwood University and beyond. Her leadership has been demonstrated in her founding the student organization Reproductive Justice Today. She believes this organization provides “a framework that links reproductive rights to broader issues of social justice, healthcare, body autonomy, and safe parenting environments”. She felt that existing vehicles addressing the above did not provide enough for students to learn about the importance of how these issues interact, and she decided to create a platform where students felt safe to express and share experiences.
Her professor describes her as “engaged and thoughtful who consistently contributes meaningfully to class discussion” and someone who “has not only a strong grasp of sociological concepts but has the ability to apply them to real-world issues with insight and empathy.”
Her initiative required the leadership skills of courage, creativeness, and synergy to achieve maximum results. Her application essay clearly shows her concern and empathy for the growth and empowerment of others.
Beyond Longwood she has been active as an EMT with the Prince Edward County Rescue Squad. In her words, “This role requires effective communication, collaboration, and cherishing its responsibility, deepening my commitment to service-driven leadership.”
Kimora is a living example of the training program offered by the SNVC Institute, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. We are proud to have her as the recipient of this year’s scholarship.
