Participants will:
Acquire a greater awareness of hunger and poverty in our area and the anguish and frustrations experienced daily by those in need; Learn more about Longwood's Elwood's Cabinet and its effort to help Lancers who are experiencing hunger, poverty, and even homelessness; Hear from representatives of seven community organizations who work tirelessly to help those who are hungry, poor, and even homeless; Volunteer as a group to weed and prepare 12 community garden beds at the Farmville Community Garden (weather permitting); Share a meal of delicious soup with community members and activists in the effort to decrease hunger and poverty in our area. They will also get to keep ceramic soup bowls handmade by Longwood students, in ceramics class;
Benefit Elwood's Cabinet with donations of needed non-perishable food; and Benefit Delma's Pantry with monies earned from donations collected during our Empty Bowls Event.
