First-generation Student Success: A Landscape Analysis of Programs and Services at Four-year Institutions

Calling all interested faculty and staff to please gather on Wednesday, February 6th from 4-6pm in the Upchurch Wilson Chambers (3rd floor) for an open discussion of First-generation Student Success: A Landscape Analysis of Programs and Services at Four-year Institutions, led by Sarah E. Whitley, Ph.D., Senior Director of the Center for First-generation Student SuccessCafé will be providing light snacks and beverages. 

Having been a first-generation, transfer student and staff member at Longwood and now an accomplished researcher in the field of evidence-based First-generation student success, Dr. Whitley has multiple perspectives to share.  Topics of particular focus will include:  A dive into the first-generation identity and ways to combat deficit-based cultural issues; common barriers that prevent institutions from being more intentional; and six approaches used with success to improve first-generation outcomes.  Participants will explore opportunities for collaborations at Longwood that could advance our first-generation student experiences and outcomes.
