The Longwood Center for the Visual Arts (LCVA) is pleased to announce the newest addition to our Free Family Workshop series, the MLK Day Free Family Workshop. The LCVA is partnering with Longwood's Office of Multicultural Affairs, and the Moton Museum, in collaboration with the Virginia Children's Book Festival (VCBF) and Prince Edward County High School, to bring this celebration to the community. This fun and educational day includes tours of Moton Museum, family and children's art activities, and a reading area by the VCBF.

The goal of this event is to rapidly and compellingly share knowledge and information about diverse topics, community challenges, ideas for change, and areas of opportunity to develop and improve the community, without overwhelming the absorptive capacity of the audience. There will be members of the community talking about seven different topics for 8 minutes. Participants will move from table to table to experience all of the talks. Topics for discussion are: 1. Housing economy and econnomic status in the community. 2. Food Insecurity 3. School Board, Education 4. Politics on local and social issues 5. Vice Mayor on the Town & Gown Relationship 6. Law Enforcement 7. Health After the talks there will be a reflection opportunity and Q and A.

The Longwood Center for the Visual Arts' (LCVA) Cabin Film Series returns on Friday, February 21st at 7:00 p.m. with a free screening of the horror film 'Us' at the Longwood Cabin. Produced and directed by Jordan Peele, 'Us' is a 2019 American horror film that stars Lupita Nyong'o, Winston Duke, Elizabeth Moss, Tim Heidecker, Shahadi Wright Joseph, and Evan Alex. The screening is part of the Cabin Film Series, which showcases classic and cult horror films at the Longwood Cabin. Hosted by the LCVA, the event is guest curated by Dr. Chris McGee, Associate Professor in the English and Modern Languages Department at Longwood. Prior to the film, Dr. McGee will introduce the film and leads a group discussion exploring its themes.

ANNOUNCING AUDITIONS FOR Ken Ludwig's BASKERVILLE: A SHERLOCK HOLMES MYSTERY Auditions will be held the Monday night we return from Spring Break. That's Monday, March 9th at 6:00 PM in the Lab Theatre, call backs, if needed will be Tuesday night. Performances April 15th through 19th CSTAC Main Stage Rehearsals will be in the evenings and will start immediately once the show is cast. Audition Format: Will be selected readings from the script and possible improvisation scenarios. Cast Breakdown (Five actors needed, one actor will play Sherlock Holmes, one actor will play Dr. Watson, three other actors will portray the 36 other characters in the play (37 if you count the Baby in the carriage).

Join Lauren Rice, Associate Professor of Painting and Drawing at Longwood University, as she leads a free workshop at the LCVA's Art After Dark series Wednesday, March 11th, at 6:00 p.m. During this workshop, participants will be introduced to a wide variety of historical and contemporary artists' sketchbooks. Participants will look at (and make!) traditional sketches using drawing materials while also considering the role of our cellphones as a sketching tool. Hands-on exercises will explore the sketchbook as a place of experimentation and creative play, as well as a place for planning, list-making, collecting source material and developing observation-based skills.
