Please join us at the LCVA on August 30th from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. for an opening reception for Present Continuous: Longwood University Department of Theatre, Art, and Graphic & Animation Design Faculty Exhibition.

Like their colleagues in other academic disciplines at Longwood University, art department faculty members teach full loads throughout the academic year and conduct research in their areas of specialty. For the art department, that means delving into the process of creating works of art aesthetically and technically. As they instill in (and insist from) their own students, their work is grounded in exceptional craftsmanship and use of materials which support the meaning and intent of their work. The range of service to Longwood and experience in the field of art is great; all have a deeply felt commitment to their professions as educators and artists. This year’s participants include Mark Baldridge, Brian Barr, Angela Bubash, Kathleen Calhoun, Andy Campbell, Leslie Cook-Day, Keith Cummings, Kerri Cushman, Randy Edmonson, Alex Grabiec, Lisa Johnson, Michael Mergen, Kelly Nelson, Adam Paulek, Chris Register, Lauren Rice, Homer Springer, and Jay Zuberi.

This exhibition highlights the innovation found in Longwood University’s Department of Theatre, Art, and Graphic & Animation Design faculty. In addition to teaching, all of the faculty engage in the contemporary discourse within their respective fields. The collective connection to craft, rigor, and material reflects the wide range of practices and inquiry found within graphic and animation design, visual, and the performing arts.

Present Continuous is on view August 31 – October 20, with an opening reception on August 30 from 5:30-8 p.m.
