The Office of Student Research is proud to feature Christopher Skibinski in this week’s “Scholar Story”.

Christopher Skibinski is a junior Kinesiology major at Longwood University. Christopher participated in the summer PRISM research program in summer 2020. His research with Dr. Robert Blaisdell tested if wearing a mouthguard impacts force and power output in sports. Christopher became involved in this research project because he “watched some ads that said mouthguards could improve performance but I was curious if that was true. Participating in research also helped me think of ways to take ideas from a research setting and apply it in practical ways.”

For Christopher, the best part of doing research was “reading the practical applications. I am interested in the science of sports performance so I liked thinking about how I could use these ideas in my future career.”

After graduation Christopher plans on pursuing a career in sport performance or physical therapy.
