Substantive Change
Longwood is required to report certain substantive changes to SACSCOC and SCHEV. These include but are not limited to:
- New academic degree programs
- New certificate programs
- Adding a doctoral program
- Closing a degree program or certificate (ceasing to admit students
- Off-site locations
- Online delivery
- Dual or joint degree programs with another institution
- Changing the name of a college or department
- Adding a college or department
Some changes require only prior notification, others require approval one to six months prior to implementation and submission of a prospectus, proposal, or other documentation. Failure to report substantive changes on time and as required is serious and may result in sanction by SACSCOC.
The Office of Accreditation and Compliance is responsible for interpreting SACSCOC and SCHEV substantive change policies and ensuring compliance with reporting requirements. Faculty should seek input from the office in the earliest stages of any proposed initiative to avoid unnecessary delays.
