Longwood University’s 2024-2025 Honor & Integrity Ceremony was held Friday, August 23rd, in Jarman Auditorium. This ceremony is a shared rite of passage among Longwood students past and present that exemplifies to our incoming freshman class, the importance and prominence of our Honor System which was established by the student body in 1910. Yasmin Lopez sang a beautiful rendition of our National Anthem. President Revely opened the ceremony by sharing the deep history of the Honor System at Longwood University and the role honor and conduct plays throughout colleges and universities in Virginia overall. This ceremony also allows new students to see their peers that represent the Honor & Conduct Board. The 2024-2025 Honor & Conduct Board detailed Longwood’s Points and Principles of Honor and Plenary Chair, Brandon Bateman, welcomed us to the ceremony and led us in the reading and signing of the Honor Pledge. As the Director of Student Conduct & Integrity, I closed the ceremony with remarks that I hope planted seeds of good habits for our freshman class. I encouraged them to ask questions -- something that I was afraid to do as a new student, I also stressed the importance of utilizing all resources available to them. My goal and the overarching goal of my office is to provide students with the knowledge, skill and insight necessary to make mature behavioral decisions that will contribute to the campus community and society.

Returning to Longwood in a professional capacity has truly been insightful and invigorating in a way that I could not have imagined. The Honor & Integrity Ceremony tugged at my heart strings as I felt the same excitement that I did as a freshman participating in New Lancer Days as I did being introduced as the Director of Student Conduct and Integrity. What I enjoyed most about the ceremony was meeting new students and seeing the Honor & Conduct Board shine.  They are a tremendous group, and I am honored to work with them this academic year.
