Are you expecting to miss one or more of your classes this semester due to a professional or personal obligation? Instead of canceling class, consider Don’t Cancel That Class Initiative! Of course, we are also happy to provide workshops with faculty members present!
This initiative provides faculty with the opportunity to bring meaningful student success workshops into the classroom while they are away. These sessions focus on critical skills that support students' academic, personal, and professional development.
How It Works:
- Browse Our Workshop Offerings – Select a topic from the list below.
- Submit a Request – Complete the [Request a Workshop Form] at least [X days] in advance to allow us to arrange a facilitator.
- Workshop Confirmation – A member of our team will reach out to confirm your request and finalize details.
- We Handle the Rest – A Student Success Coordinator will facilitate the session during your scheduled class time.
Available Workshops:
Faculty can choose from a range of topics designed to enhance student success, including:
- Time Management Strategies
An essential piece of being an active learner is balancing the time between the tasks that need to get done and the things students want to do. This workshop will focus on organizing time, prioritizing tasks, and finding an overall balance in regard to time.
- Setting Goals & Overcoming Procrastination
Many students discuss procrastination as a barrier to achieving their goals in any given class. In this workshop, we will discuss factors that make up good goals, whether they are focused on personal, academic, or involvement areas, and analyze specific strategies to curb procrastination.
- Peer-Assisted Learning & Tutoring Overview
We offer course-based learning support for many courses in any given semester. In this workshop, we will provide an overview of the different types of learning assistance that we have available (for free!) and demonstrate how to schedule appointments.
- Preparing for an Exam
An exam is a time for students to demonstrate their knowledge. Every reading, assignment, and class discussion are opportunities to practice and prepare for the exam. This workshop will discuss strategies and resources to help students be more effective in exam practice and time management leading up to the exam.
- Effective Reading & Note-Taking
Whether students are taking notes on an assigned reading or in class, active reading and note-taking are foundational aspects of the learning process. The focus of this workshop will allow students to analyze their current strategies and engage with further strategies that promote active reading and note-taking.
Why Participate?
- Keeps students engaged in productive learning rather than missing class.
- Reinforces skills that support academic success and retention.
- Provides an opportunity for students to interact with campus resources in a meaningful way.
