The Longwood University Office of Teacher Preparation (OTP) is committed to providing the teacher candidate with positive, practical, and professional experiences. University faculty, supervisors, mentor teachers, and the Office of Teacher Preparation work with teacher candidates to provide the support and encouragement they need to enter the teaching profession as enthusiastic, effective, and caring teachers prepared to teach all students.
Longwood's Teacher Preparation Program prepares Teachers as Reflective Leaders based upon a solid foundation of general education, a broad background in liberal arts and sciences, and specific pedagogical skills as required by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) and the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) standards.
This is the official Handbook of the Teacher Preparation Program. It is intended for use by Longwood University teacher candidates and all constituents associated with the University’s Teacher Preparation Program. It is a comprehensive guide providing policies, requirements, guidelines, and suggestions for those individuals enrolled in Longwood’s Teacher Preparation Program. This Handbook is supplemented by required meetings, orientation sessions, and training provided by OTP. While this Handbook is not exhaustive in its coverage, all processes that lead to the completion of the requirements for an initial license are included.
