CREATING YOUR PROFESSIONAL PORTFOLIO
Date: November 12, 3:30-4:30 pm, Allen 310
Registration: https://forms.gle/oz485wEjKAH7F5Xo7
This 60-minute workshop is designed to help all first-year, tenure-track faculty, clinicians, and lecturers create/revise their professional portfolios. Attendees will learn about Longwood University’s process of review for promotion and tenure (P&T), review the relevant sections of the Faculty Policies and Procedures Manual (FPPM), and develop strategies to present oneself effectively to multiple audiences that review professional portfolios.

As CAFE is not involved in the P&T process, attendees are asked to discuss departmental and college requirements with their department chairs before attending the workshop.

Research shows that since COVID, instructors and staff are experiencing burnout at higher than average rates. One way to combat the exhaustion is to try mindfulness techniques. Join Renee Gutiérrez to create a pause in your day. All are welcome for a brief, guided meditation; no previous experience is required.

POST-ELECTION PEDAGOGY
Many educators are uncertain about whether to allocate class time for learning activities—such as discussions or other low-stakes assignments—that encourage students to engage with the election results critically. This decision often involves considering students’ varied emotions surrounding the outcome (or the anticipation if results are still pending) and exploring the election's broader social, political, and cultural implications.

This month’s CAFE Espresso (a short read on a robust topic) offers tips and insights focused on post-election pedagogy. You can access it @ https://blogs.longwood.edu/cafeinstitute2016/2024/11/04/post-election-pedagogy/
