For years, we have taught students to use the CRAAP Test as a guide as they evaluate secondary sources, yet still they struggled.  The truth is, evaluating sources can be difficult when you are still trying to gain experience and expertise in a scholarly discipline.  So how do you help your students think deeply about sources?  Join this workshop to learn about Lateral Reading, and then brainstorm the discipline-specific evaluation techniques your students need to succeed.

TEACHING DURING A PANDEMIC SERIES

Hmm.. Were they ready to be back?: Pedagogical strategies for overcoming COVID learning funk.

Facilitator:       Adam Franssen, CAFE Director

Date:               Wednesday, October 6th, 1pm

As we complete the first quarter of our semester, faculty have heard from both new and returning students that they are experiencing challenges with learning in the classroom. They are struggling with test taking, concentration, and other stresses in and out of the classroom. When you register, please share what atypical or different student learning experiences you are encountering this fall. We’ll use that data to plan a session. The first hour of the session will be about targeted strategies and the last 20-30 minutes will be small group discussions of how best to put the strategies into motion.
