Instructure (Canvas) is changing the way that it works with YouTube. Any existing or new YouTube videos added to Canvas may start displaying ads on September 22, 2025. That's why we're excited to give you a heads up that Canvas will be announcing that, starting September 1, 2025, Canvas Studio will include a direct integration with YouTube’s Player for Education, providing a secure, distraction-free, and student-safe video experience—built specifically for learning environments.

With the integrated Player for Education, Canvas Studio users can stream YouTube videos:

  • without distractions, recommendations, or links back to YouTube.
  • while remaining anonymous to YouTube through a "signed-out" viewing state.
  • with captioning from YouTube to maintain accessibility.

Additionally, Canvas is developing a new tool to help streamline the migration of YouTube videos to Canvas Studio. This automated solution will work at the course level and save educators time. They will be launching an early adopter program for this migration tool August 15, 2025, and the tool will be available as early as September 1, 2025.
