History of Longwood University’s Camera Secuity System

In February 2000, Longwood University's Board of Visitors approved the University's commitment to maintaining the highest level of safety and security on campus and provided its unanimous support for the improvements detailed in the update on Campus Security & Safety and for the budget amendments being submitted to the General Assembly on behalf of the University.

In 2010 cameras became a big part of the University more cameras were installed in addition to the 40 cameras located at the Landings complex, a new web based video surveillance system was installed in 2010 and is expanding rapidly which enhances the capabilities of securing the Longwood campus. As of 2020 we have 449 security cameras in place throughout the University, more cameras are being installed this year.   Convenience, safety, and security for the campus community was and remains the foremost goal for this progression while utilizing the most current technology available.

Overall, Longwood's security management system has exceeded the expectations of the University by maintaining the highest level of security for our students, faculty, and staff. With video surveillance, we are bringing Longwood University into the future world of an ever changing security market.
