Longwood University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). Every ten years Longwood is asked to review and determine compliance with all standards of accreditation – this process is called reaffirmation. There is also a Fifth-Year Interim Report focused on a subset of those standards and an accompanying Quality Enhancement Plan Impact Report; Longwood completed these in 2020.

Our self-study process for reaffirmation has begun: a report will be submitted in September 2023 and an on-site visit will occur in Spring 2024.

The reaffirmation process has two parts: a Compliance Certification and a Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP).  The Compliance Certification is a narrative that discusses our determinations of compliance, after an extensive review of all university aspects, with the SACSCOC Principles of Accreditation. The QEP is a plan, grounded in data and broadly supported across campus, to advance student learning and/or student success.

This effort is led by the Reaffirmation Leadership Team:

  • W. Taylor Reveley IV, President
  • Larissa Smith, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, Professor of History
  • Matt McGregor, Vice President for Administration and Finance
  • David Shoenthal, Associate Provost & Associate VP for Academic Affairs, Professor of Mathematics
  • JoEllen Pederson, Associate Professor of Sociology, Chair of Faculty Senate (2019-2022)
  • Pam Tracy, Director for the Center for Faculty Enrichment, Professor of Communication Studies
