The DEC supports all faculty, staff and students. We are located on the 2nd floor of Allen Hall. We happily support the campus community from 8am until 5pm Monday through Friday. We are also available on weekends via email. Support during exams, breaks, closings and intersession is semester-specific and will be communicated via email, Canvas and/or other appropriate methods.
From Canvas to Zoom, the DEC is always willing to assist students with their teaching and learning based technological needs. For support with your LancerNet and Live Mail account/credentials please contact the Help Desk at 434-395-4357.
Canvas is a web-based learning management system, or LMS. It is used by learning institutions, educators, and students to access and manage online course learning materials and communicate about skill development and learning achievement. They have created excellent guides, customized for all user types, with easy to follow instructions to help you navigate through and answer any questions you may have.

Panopto is a tool integrated into Canvas that makes working with video easy. With Panopto, students can record multimedia presentations as homework assignments using their laptop, tablet, or smartphone.

Poll Everywhere gives each student a discrete way to voice their opinions and comprehension. Students must use a computer or personal cell-phone to respond to Poll Everywhere questions within a course setting. The student is responsible for any text-messaging rates or charges that may apply to their mobile-phone account.
The username and password for Poll Everywhere are NOT the same as your LancerNet credentials. You will need to use your @live.longwood.edu account as your username and the password you set with the system. Your first time logging in to Poll Everywhere, you will need to use the “Forgot Password” option to set your account password. If you plan to use your phone to respond to poll questions, you will need to download the free Poll Everywhere app on your phone. With the app, you can more quickly access polls and see your history of responses.
LockDown Browser is a locked browser for use with quizzes in Canvas. It prevents you from printing, copying, going to another URL, or accessing other applications during an assessment. If a Canvas quiz requires that LockDown Browser be used, you will not be able to take the quiz with a standard web browser.
You may be required to use LockDown Browser with a webcam, which will record you during an online, nonproctored exam. (The webcam feature is sometimes referred to as “Respondus Monitor.”) Your computer must have a functioning webcam and microphone. A broadband connection is also required.

WordPress is an online platform for creating blogs and personal websites. Users can add video, images, and text content. There are many customizable options for the content layout. Content is housed on the WordPress platform and can be shared through links to the content. Students can create personal websites and manage and maintain them on their own. Once content is created, it is the student’s responsibility to keep track of the changes and material located on the site. Once the student leaves Longwood University, the content will be available to copy to a personal WordPress site for 1 year after the student leaves the university.
Each WordPress site has 25mb of space but this site limitation can be increased on a case-by-case need. Users can find and create their own personal sites through blogs.longwood.edu and will use their Longwood University credentials to sign in and manage the content.
The DEC is responsible for the administration of the University’s Zoom license. Longwood users should visit https://longwood-edu.zoom.us/ and sign in with Lancernet ID and password to access their Longwood Zoom account.
While all Faculty, Staff, and students all have access to fully licensed accounts with no time limits, Cloud Recording is not available for students. Local recording is available to all users.
The DEC is more than happy to assist all users with the use of Zoom. University Events and Ceremonies is the best resource for any University parties interested in using Zoom to host virtual events.
