Available Presentation and Workshops

Career Documents:

• Resume overview and best practices: A 50-minute presentation that covers employer expectations, current standards, and basic information on formatting, appearance, and content.
• Resume Workshop: A 50- or 75- minute workshop with Career Success staff members for your students to receive real-time feedback, coaching, and assistance. Students will need a laptop for this workshop.
• Cover Letter overview and workshop: Can be tailored to either a 50- or 75-minute class and will include information on how to identify what to include in a cover letter, the structure, format, and content expectations from employers, and a workshop-style writing activity to get students thinking about what they should say.

Networking

• LinkedIn Workshop: a 50-minute workshop for students to build and refine their LinkedIn profiles, explore ways to connect with alumni, colleagues, and organizations, and start conducting outreach. Students will need a laptop and an active LinkedIn profile. * Please note that a phone will not work for this as LinkedIn functionality on phone is highly limited
• Handshake Profile development: a 50-minute workshop for students to build and tailor their Handshake profiles. Handshake is a primary point of entry for post-graduate jobs, with many open positions posted exclusively on the Handshake website
• Handshake & LinkedIn workshop: A 50- or 75- minute workshop that offers general development of both LinkedIn and Handshake profiles. Ideal for first- or second-year students.
• Finding professional connection and professional development activities: A 30-minute presentation that

Job Acquisition:

• Decoding a Job Ad: a 30-minute presentation that covers reading and deconstructing a job ad, understanding hierarchy of duties listed, identifying key words, and using a job ad to write an effective resume and cover letter.
• Interviewing Overview: A 50-minute presentation that covers behavioral interview questions, common questions and answers, the STAR method for interviewing, and important pre-interview/post-interview steps. There is time at the end for some practice interview questions and feedback.
• Interviewing Workshop: a 50-minute workshop with members of the Career staff that uses rotating small-group to practice interview questions in a round-robin environment, offers immediate feedback to students, and gives the opportunity for improvement.
• Understanding the elements of a job offer: a 50- or 75-minute presentation that discusses what benefits are, how to navigate health care offerings, 401k language, varied perks, post-graduate expenses, and weighing salary vs. benefits.
