The Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) position is a legislated requirement for all NCAA member institutions. The FAR must be a member of the institution’s faculty or a university administrator who holds a faculty rank. The primary role of the FAR is to serve as a liaison between the faculty and the athletics department, and to represent the institution within conference and NCAA governance. At Longwood, the FAR chairs the Intercollegiate Athletics Council, and within the Big South Conference, sits on the Council of FARs and the Big South Conference Board of Administrators. The FAR is charged with ensuring that the member institution creates and enforces policies and procedures that maintain academics as the central focus while supporting the student-athlete experience in the classroom and within athletics.
